I think the rules could allow for a more flexible approach to determining race selection, meaning by mutual agreement between the two players. In other words, both options should be allowed – either random selection or choosing races manually – although, in reality, it's not that important. If the rules specify random selection, but both players are okay with choosing races manually, or vice versa, they can do so even without specific rules, because, as I said, there's really no problem with it.
