"Team Tournament" - Rules and Discussion

Seriously, can someone explain to me why "baskets" are even needed? They're not necessary for drafts, and in a tournament, you have 5 players on a team – the captain arranges them on the "boards" at the beginning of the tournament as they see fit, and then you play with that setup (1-2-3-4-5). Let them put their strongest player on the 5th board if they want – what's the problem? A weaker player will just be on the first board then.
