I read the article, but there are inaccuracies that immediately catch the eye.
This statement is fundamentally incorrect, since the choice of FPS count is determined solely by the processor's power. And setting it above 25 makes no sense at all, because you won't notice a difference in Heroes. Off the top of my head, I can only recall Quake 3 — where you need to set 25+ FPS because the game is very dynamic, whereas in Heroes, with a static picture, 25 is more than enough.
Also, IMHO, the recommendation for choosing the bitrate is not very accurate. Of course, if your channel is good, set it to 1000+ and you won't have any problems, but unfortunately, not everyone has a good internet connection. Therefore, the bitrate should be chosen depending on the game's resolution. From personal observations, when playing at 1024x768, a bitrate of 700-800 is quite sufficient. At a resolution of 1280x720, a bitrate of 1000-1200. There's no point in setting larger resolutions for output, as they will consume an immense amount of CPU resources. It's worth noting that choosing the resolution is key in streaming; you need to start from it and set all other settings accordingly. It is highly advisable to set the game capture resolution and the stream output resolution to the same value (this way, no additional computer resources will be wasted). If your computer can't handle identical resolutions, the minimal load will be when the output resolution is half the capture resolution. And by the way, if you play in fullscreen, the CPU load will be about 5-10% lower.
The FPS trick is known to me, but these characteristics were determined through trial and error. Indeed, there's not much difference beyond 33 FPS, but oddly enough, if you vary the FPS, bitrate, and preset, the quality turns out better.
Regarding bitrate and the rest.
A certain quality coefficient, let's take it as given, should be equal to 0.2 (determined empirically).
The ideal ratio is achieved using the following formula
k = bitrate/(pix*fps)So, the higher k is, the better the quality, but the more demanding the settings will be for your computer and internet.
Two examples:
Capture 1280×720 pixels
Bitrate 1500kbps - 1500000/((1280*720)*25) = 1500000/23040000 = 0.065
Bitrate 3500kbps - 3500000/((1280*720)*25) = 3500000/23040000 = 0.152
Capture 1920×1080 pixels
Bitrate 1500kbps - 1500000/((1920*1080)*25) = 1500000/51840000 = 0.029 (it's easy to see that with the same bitrate, the quality is almost 2.5 times worse)
Bitrate 10000kbps - 10000000/((1920*1080)*25) = 10000000/23040000 = 0.192
These examples are intended for fairly serious, dynamic games, say SC or CS; for Heroes, of course, the quality coefficient can be lower.
And yes, fullscreen resolution is not supported by XSplit (an internal glitch, impossible to add a capture application, tried 7 different games), I haven't tried it on OBS, but I suspect the situation will be exactly the same.
