A true master has no favorite tactics or techniques. He is equally good at everything. That is why he is a master.

Interesting topic. It reminds me of a phrase I once read somewhere (quoting from memory): "Every master, with 20 hammers, will definitely have one favorite." :)
If we don't try to solve the question "in general," specifically in relation to "Heroes": are there players who are equally good at playing any faction? And can such a universal player lose to a player who is more skilled at playing only one or a few factions?
