Even after the demon captures a group near the Satyrs, you still have to exchange crystals on the market, but by the middle of the 5th day, you have just enough money to buy one vampire. In principle, if you track every coin from the first day, you might have enough for a second vampire. I spent a lot of gold on buying skeletons and imps; I could probably have managed with fewer.
