Well, firstly, he wouldn't have done all this without Isabelle, and secondly, by "simple vampire" I meant that Nicholas didn't have the same power as, say, Giovanni. Markel didn't give him such power, so he couldn't resist Markel controlling his mind, as he does with the mind of any simple vampire. He wouldn't have been able to influence Giovanni in the same way. Although you're right, after what he did to the elven kingdom, you can't call him weak anymore; he's more of an average character. Markel only gave him the powers he needed as a commander, while still leaving him as a puppet, incapable of resisting him.

Although, if Nicholas could suddenly rebel, he would kill Markel, because, as a commander, Nicholas is stronger. There's no way around mind control here; Markel had no other options
