You can simply dig him up. :)
We're not talking about actions within a single day, but about the deception that the hero supposedly arrived at level 1, which could lead to a restart in a bad scenario.
I didn't think of that, because the starting hero is known in advance, so if he was removed, it's easy to dig him up and check. In that case, any save will work.
