Well, I got carried away and even collected some achievements.
The map is pretty good, although I didn't run after the Roaches, and in the end, they took back three of my castles when I finished the mission.
I was just too lazy to get to them.

So, if you go down the Path of Tears, will you still have to fight Airini?

No. Airini becomes a friend until the end of the campaign and goes on missions with you, but then Akamas won't join. Even if you defeat him, he says that the Path of Tears isn't for him and he'll stay home.
Although, as a hero, he's more interesting than Airini.
