Dynasty weapons.

You can give dynasty weapons to each hero purchased in the tavern. That's always been the case for me. And you don't even need to trade with the adjacent hero; you can simply transfer the desired swords directly in the hero's properties, and it works fine.
There doesn't seem to be a reputation system for secondary heroes, or at least it doesn't level up.
