Well, they could have just skipped naming them and assigned numbers, with a table under each number as they do now, and that would have been it. But each team has an emblem, which is its only visual symbol, and I personally find it pleasing to look at. If others don't like it or don't see the point, that's fine; I'm not forcing it on anyone.
