There are only two systems:

1. Current rating. It is indefinite and never reset. The only feature is that old results are aged to reflect the current state of affairs. This is to avoid the Korean nuances you were talking about.

2. Rating (cup, championship, etc.) for a specified period (year, season, month). There is no aging here. The result accumulates during the period, after which the results are summarized, and it is reset for the next start. The start is from zero.
