Would it work for a boss?

The colors are too simple. There should be shadows, some irregularities... In general, modifying textures is a very complex task. A simple fill with one color won't work here.

I don't know if it's available in Photoshop, but in Paint, you could make any color completely transparent. Look for that feature...
