I haven't delved into these intricacies, although it's quite possible that you need to replace any ordinary art with a tear, but with a modified position relative to the hero (for example, move it from the backpack to the pocket). Or even not change it at all. However, there's no guarantee that it will work. But that would be a mod.
Although, it's possible that the Ash object lacks active tiles, and they need to be added...
