I looked at how it was implemented in mission 3 of campaign 2 of the original game. Unfortunately, this option won't work. I tweaked the hero parameters in Shared, and it worked. Oh well, I wanted to avoid using mods...

What's wrong with copying the hero? (Copies don't affect the checksum, so the game won't recognize it as a mod.) You can either create a copy manually or use scripts, like I did on the map "Condition of Blood" (Fight with the Shadow).
