P.S. So much has been fabricated about the Mongol "yoke." Yet no one considers that:
1 - The Mongol population was only 200 thousand, up to 1 million including neighboring nomadic tribes. And their maximum (total) army was around 250 thousand. Only about 80-100 thousand came to Rus. Moreover, they weren't heading for Rus, but to Hungary; it just so happened that the southern Russian princes clashed with the Mongols, and this was the result.
2 - The word "yoke" was first used in the sense of "oppression" in the 17th century, when the Zaporozhians complained that life was hard under the rule of the Russian Tsar.
