Janus Poluektovich Nevstruev, Director of NIICHAVO
According to employees, he is simply the perfect director. One man with two faces: U-Janus is a great scientist, A-Janus is a rather ordinary administrator. Most employees have become so used to this that they don't think about the reasons, and those who know his secret prefer to keep quiet about it. U-Janus has a habit of constantly asking what happened yesterday, but on the other hand, he is perfectly informed about tomorrow's events—far more accurately than the Department of Predictions and Prophecies tasked with this.
Special Abilities:
Authority – double vote.
One in two faces – exists simultaneously as A-Janus and U-Janus. Any ND applied to him has a 50/50 chance of affecting either A- or U-Janus. He can use 2 ND each night.
Contramot – U-Janus cannot be killed (even by the Big Round Seal). If A-Janus is killed, U-Janus does not perish but loses his double vote and disappears for the following night.
ND:
A-Janus
Instruction – can give any of the city roles an "order" as to whom to visit the next night. The target has the right to either follow it or remain inactive that night. Applied once per role.
State of Emergency (once per game, starting from the third night) - any kills have a 50% chance of failing.
U-Janus
"What were we discussing yesterday?" - finds out whom the target visited last night. Does not learn the ND type.
Status: A-Janus – human, good; U-Janus – mage, good.
Modest Matveevich Kamnoedov, Deputy Director for Administrative and Economic Affairs
A strict and commanding administrator who understands little of magic, for whom the main thing is to follow the letter of the law and oppose the squandering of property. Many in the institute are afraid of him, while others simply prefer not to argue with him.
Special Abilities: Firmness – immunity to ND transfer.
ND: "Stop this at once!" - blocks the target.
Status: human, bad.
Fedor Simeonovich Kivrin, Head of the Department of Linear Happiness
A great mage and sorcerer possessing incorrigible optimism and faith in a beautiful future. In his turbulent past, he has passed many trials that taught him much.
Special Abilities: Experienced Mage – 50% chance to avoid any magical attack.
Old Friends – searches for Junta; if he finds him, a link is formed.
ND: Knowledge of the Ancients – heals the chosen player.
Status: mage, good.
Cristobal Josevich Junta, Head of the Department of the Meaning of Life
A wonderful man, yet completely heartless. Once, in his early youth, he was a Grand Inquisitor for a long time and still retains his habits from then. He is also known as an excellent taxidermist—a stuffer of specimens. His office, where he lets no one enter, is rumored to hold many interesting things.
Special Abilities: Strength of Spirit – immunity to block.
Old Friends – searches for Kivrin; if he finds him, a link is formed.
ND: Vigilant Protector – protects the target and kills the attacker.
DD: Memory of the Inquisition – twice per game can insist on the execution of a chosen player. After the first use, status changes to "bad"; after the second, he reveals himself. Yields to the power of the Big Round Seal; in this case, the DD is not considered performed.
Status: mage, good.
Gian Giacomo, Head of the Department of Universal Transformations
Little is known about this undoubtedly great mage, however, rumors say that he once spent a lot of time studying defensive magic (as many old-timers did), achieving great success in it. Now his knowledge and skills will be most appropriate.
Special Abilities: Defensive Magic – if he is killed, 50% chance to kill the attacker (he dies regardless).
ND: Combat Practice – kills a chosen player (attack type – magical). If he kills an employee of NIICHAVO, he receives "bad" status.
Status: mage, good.
Sabaof Baalovich Odin, Head of the Department of Technical Support
In times long forgotten, Sabaof Baalovich was one of the leading mages in the world. By solving the Equation of Perfection, he became omnipotent, gaining the ability to perform any miracle, but reached a dead end—the miracle must not cause harm to anyone in the Universe, which is impossible. Thus, he left magic forever and became the head of the Technical Support department at NIICHAVO...
Special Abilities: Might – always avoids the first assassination attempt, unless it is the Big Round Seal.
ND: Mastery – learns the ND of the target (the target does not lose their ND). Learns the ND type and can choose to apply or not apply it on the following night (but no later).
Status: mage, good.
Merlin
Head of the weather bureau, archaic and overconfident. He bases his predictions on a wide variety of omens and rituals, but his main tool is banal radio interception. He has greatly annoyed many employees with his night visits and embellished stories about the past.
Special Abilities: Annoyance – if the target's ND is "block", he provokes them to use it on himself the next night (the player's target shifts to Merlin).
ND: Annoying Storyteller – strips the target of their vote. If he visits Janus, the latter loses only one vote.
Status: mage, bad.
Magnus Fedorovich Redkin
A bachelor of black magic and an unlucky inventor of invisibility trousers who seems to have finally succeeded in the difficult task of perfecting his invention. Moreover, the invisibility trousers may help him realize a long-held dream—finding the legendary White Thesis.
Special Abilities: Secret Plan – cannot write notes to the newspaper.
Search for the Translator-Sofa – if he visits Korneev, he steals his sofa and, along with it, its ND. Korneev can reclaim the device by finding Redkin.
ND: Walk in Invisibility Trousers – invisibly follows a chosen player, learns who visited them and whom they visited (in the case of an ND not displayed in the newspaper, he receives a notice such as "someone visited the target"). Cannot be used 2 nights in a row. On the night of the walk, he has immunity to all ND except the Big Round Seal (on himself), reinforced genie attack (on the tracking target), and blocks (the walk does not occur).
Status: mage, good.
Roman Oyra-Oyra
A scientist with a decent understanding of theoretical magic and just a good guy.
Special Abilities: Teacher – if he finds Privalov, he gives him a magic lesson, changing his status to "mage".
ND: Expert in Mathematical Magic – check for mage/human/non-human status.
Status: mage, good.
Edik Amperyan
An employee of the Department of Linear Happiness, very polite and decent. He aims his research at making other people even a little bit better, and it seems he is succeeding.
Special Abilities: none
ND: 1) Check for good/bad status.
2) Remoralization – if the target's status is "bad", it changes to "good" for 2 nights (current and next); during this time, the target loses all aggressive ND (kill, block), if any. Does not work on Lavr Fedotovich. If he hits a genie, there is a 50% chance he traps it in a bottle (the genie appears alive and can vote but remains inactive) and a 50% chance he dies himself.
Status: mage, good.
Vitka Korneev
In some ways the opposite of Amperyan—rude and unfriendly, but at the same time a very hardworking scientist engaged in studying the properties of the translator-sofa—a device that transforms real reality into a fairy tale.
Special Abilities: Rude Person – 50% chance to have "bad" status during checks.
Tough Guy – 50% chance to avoid physical attack.
ND: Launch Translator-Sofa – if applied to a human or non-human, changes the ND target directionally; if to a mage, the target changes randomly. On Redkin, it acts as a block.
Status: mage, good.
Sasha Privalov
Head of the computing center, a talented programmer who entered NIICHAVO thanks to Oyra-Oyra. Additionally, he possesses a decent analytical mind, which allows him to figure out all sorts of tangled stories.
Special Abilities: Mage's Pupil – if he finds Oyra-Oyra, he learns magic from him—status changes to "mage".
ND: 1) Database Access – compares the statuses of two players, receiving a result as "same/similar/different". Cannot compare with himself.
2) Analytics – receives an additional clue for a random kill. Cannot be used 2 nights in a row.
Status: human, good.
Tikhon the Domovoy
A house-spirit from the Ryazan region, exiled to Solovetsky for some offense. Fedor Simeonovich took him in and cured him of chronic alcoholism. He is famous among local domovye for his own reasonableness and sober behavior.
Special Abilities: Illiteracy – cannot write notes to the newspaper; susceptible to Vybegallo's persuasion.
ND: Tracking – follows a chosen player, dies instead of them.
Status: non-human, good.
Alfred the Ghoul
An elderly rehabilitated ghoul who looks after the vivarium. He seems quiet and calm, but sometimes he doesn't mind recalling his wild past.
Special Abilities: Illiteracy – cannot write notes to the newspaper; susceptible to Vybegallo's persuasion.
Old Habits – once per game at random can cause a ruckus with old acquaintances from the vivarium, blocking two random players. There is a 25% chance every night except the first. If he is blocked that night, the ability does not work.
ND: none.
Status: non-human, bad.
The Trio
The mafia has 3 ND, maximum one kill and 2 notes per night. Once per game (starting from the second night), the mafia can perform 2 kills, but without any other ND.
Lavr Fedotovich Vunyukov, Chairman of the Trio
An incorrigible bureaucrat and formidable keeper of the Big Round Seal, who together with this object represents a huge danger.
Special Abilities: "bottomless barrel" – immunity to remoralization.
ND: 1) Use the Big Round Seal – kills a chosen player, ignoring all defenses (including Junta's protection and Tikhon's tracking). Once every 3 nights, starting from the second.
2) Kill – only when he is the last one left in the team (attack type – physical, weapon – pistol).
DD: use the Big Round Seal – once per game can insist on the execution of a chosen player. Works only if more than half of the Trio members (ifrit not counted) voted for this player. Ignores Junta's DD.
Status: human, bad.
Farfurkis, never called by name and patronymic by anyone
A lecturer by profession, candidate of historical sciences. Cautious and prudent, ready to do anything to earn the gratitude of his superiors. As it turned out, this includes killing.
Special Abilities: Caution – avoids Giacomo's defensive magic.
ND: 1) Document Check – check for mage/human/non-human or good/bad status (choice).
2) Kill (attack type – physical, weapon – pistol).
Status: human, bad.
Rudolf Arkhipovich Khlebovodov
An uneducated opportunist who, like Farfurkis, strives to curry favor with the bosses. Trying to achieve his goal, he did not shy away from dirty methods, but never killed with his own hands—it seems times have changed now...
Special Abilities: Cunning – 50% chance to leave no clues.
ND: kill (attack type – physical, weapon – dagger).
Status: human, bad.
Amvrosiy Ambruazovich Vybegallo, scientific consultant to the Trio
A cynical pseudo-scientist who once worked at NIICHAVO but sold himself to the Trio for profit. He earned the dislike of employees even while working at the institute. Research topic – creating "models of the ideal human" based on his own doubles.
Special Abilities: Clean Hands – does not go out on a mission himself, therefore does not die from Junta's protection or reinforced genie attack on the target.
ND: 1) Kill (attack type – physical, weapon – homunculus created in the lab)
2) Press Ties – cancels all notes (once per game).
DD: pseudo-scientific persuasion – Tikhon's and Alfred's votes during daytime voting are not counted (once per game).
Status: mage, bad.
Traitor Ifrit
Ifrits are mostly doubles of Arab military commanders. Like any other doubles, they are only capable of carrying out the instructions given to them, so this ifrit, who previously served in the Department of Defensive Magic, can be called a traitor only with a stretch. Either way, he is now subordinate to the Trio.
Special Abilities: Hates Genies – if he visits one, a fight ensues in which there is a 50% chance the genie dies and a 50% chance the ifrit dies.
ND: 1) Unexpected Visit – blocks the target
2) Fire Charge – kill (attack type – magical).
Status: non-human, bad.
Loner
Escaped Genie
Genies—doubles of King Solomon and his contemporary military commanders—can be kept in bottles for many years, and once freed, are capable of only two things: building palaces and destroying cities. This specimen, which escaped from Amperyan's laboratory due to the carelessness of some domovoy, is a vivid confirmation of that.
Special Abilities: Unclear Nature – always avoids the first assassination attempt, except for an ifrit attack and Amperyan's visit. Upon a successful assassination, instead of dying, he is trapped in a bottle (appears alive and can vote but remains inactive).
Hates Ifrits – if he visits one, a fight ensues in which there is a 50% chance the genie dies and a 50% chance the ifrit dies.
ND: 1) Build Palace – goes into full protection from external influences. Cannot be used 2 nights in a row.
2) Destroy Laboratory – blocks the target for the current night and steals their random ND, with the possibility to apply or not apply it on the following night. Does not learn the ND type.
3) Lightning Discharge – kill (attack type – magical).
4) Reinforced Discharge – kills the target and has a 50% chance of killing everyone who visited them (calculated for each separately). Once per game.
Status: non-human, bad.
