Where did people learn to play Heroes?

My ex-girlfriend taught me how to play Heroes. About five years ago, I went to her place, and she showed me this game. At the time, I was playing Civilization, and I saw that this was also a turn-based strategy game. I started playing, and now I've played all the installments. I just don't have much experience playing against other people yet.
