If the Mafia players aren't fools, they should realize that blocking their own members doesn't really protect them, but it does expose the peaceful roles. So, there's only one or two roles left for the Sheriff, and does that really clear them of suspicion? If the Mafia players aren't fools, they would be better off protecting their own members with a check, because it's not really helpful anyway. By the time they check the full status of a player, that player might already be dead, or the game might already be over.
