I would prefer a setup with 2 Mafia members + a controlled Man, or even 3 Mafia members + a controlled Man, rather than 3 Mafia members without a Man.

That's silly. The Man might not even take action. He just needs to stay in the game with three players remaining, and he'll win. It's always harder to play against two sides because you have to keep an eye on everyone and think more strategically than when playing against just the Mafia.
