What skills should Necromancers take when facing Orcs on a very large map?

Did I say that I only have one hero?
I usually have three, or even more, it all depends on the situation, but I never level them up specifically. If they visit monoliths, win in forced battles, or somehow gain experience, I don't level them up in any other way.
