Problems when playing in multiplayer.

How can I set up a local network game? My friend and I have Tribes of the East 3.1, we both created a room in Hamachi, and everything works fine there, but when we try to create a game through the local network, we can't see each other. Also, when playing through Ubisoft, we can't use downloaded maps. How can we fix this? Any advice would be appreciated.
