My dad had a computer even before I was born, and as a kid I only played video games. Very rarely.
And that went on until third grade, after which I started playing games a LOT (though I still went outside a lot back then too). For third grade, you could say I was addicted to GTA: Vice City — I played that game nonstop. My parents kept setting a BIOS password, and I’d guess it or peek at it and play while they didn’t know. Then I’d get caught, get scolded, and guess the new password :D That went on for a few years. One year I practically lived on a single password, and my parents had no clue (or pretended not to). I’d sit and play GTA too. By the way, that was a game my parents had forbidden because of the violence (and what was I doing in it? I barely even did missions, just drove around with cheats and killed people).
But that’s all nonsense — back then I still read books, went out, and did other stuff. It all started then, then, then... When I registered on HeroesWorld!
I hadn’t used the internet much before. We’d had internet for about six months (well, no, maybe a year and a half. I don’t remember) — there was internet before too, but it was janky, through a phone line, and you had to pay for time. I loved playing Heroes and often visited that site for info. Then I thought — why not register, since I’m already here? So I registered. And started posting everywhere and all that.
The gaming addiction, of course, didn’t appear right away, not at all right away — I don’t know when I became addicted to the internet, but at some point I did. Though I can’t even recall what I used to do. Sit on HeroesWorld and in ICQ? I didn’t hang out anywhere else, I didn’t even Google anything, dunno overall. Now I’m here, and there, and registered on VKontakte (I used to consider that place a den of evil, ololo I’d never ever in my life register on that devilish site, oh no, oh no, oh no, I’ll be above that — oh, there’s a grooving group there? But I actually want to learn to groove, god, how lucky I am, hurray for VKontakte, good that you exist, I’ll go register. But only without friends, I’ll just add my sister! And that friend too. And this other friend. I’ll go post a browser screenshot on HeroesWorld with a VKontakte tab open and say I accidentally exposed myself, and they’ll add me as a friend and read my fake rants on my wall about how careless I am and that I didn’t want everyone adding me all the time). But a year ago, Siver had a psycho-talk with me, after which I deleted every last friend and didn’t add anyone else. Right away my VKontakte addiction significantly decreased, but there’s still no benefit — I started spending more time on HeroesWorld, in ICQ, Skype, etc. And recently I did add a few close friends and my sister; the rest can go to hell.
Anyway, I got so addicted that I don’t even remember when exactly (or roughly) it started.
Oh yeah, here
And when did your parents buy you a computer?
When I got my own computer, I was already a hardcore gamer (though I still played games a lot more). And now I mostly play during breaks and holidays
