I often hear opinions like this. I don't see anything wrong with adopting useful developments from TE/HotA, which, by the way, has already been partially done (roads, troop transfer, built-in saver). SoD won't stop being SoD because of this.
But this should definitely be done as I suggested above — so that at the start of the game, there is an option to either leave the original settings or disable the junk (by the way, yesterday while playing random map, I cursed quite a bit after getting junk like boots of levitation and a bag of gold in a double Dragon Utopia)).

This cannot be done without the HD mod, otherwise, if you edit the text files, it will be anarchy — you can never know what your opponent will have. Almost all players participating in XV tournaments (and not only) use the HD-MOD. And everyone is happy. So why not try to introduce this innovation at least for tournaments? It's quite possible that it will work and people will accept it. And by the way, it would also be nice to add a checkbox there for rebuilding the Mage Guild. As well as for one-way portals, since playing XL templates in SoD is not very appealing. Another example from yesterday: on 8mm6a, I had a big advantage in stats and army, practically ran to my opponent and..... a monolith exit.
