I can only judge empirically.
I haven't met a single intelligent person who doesn't have at least an average level of general education. If a girl is only interested in talking about clothes and cars, she definitely won't become a great scientist. Or a politician. Or even a composer. Or even a businessman. By the way, the same applies to guys. But, it seems to me, the interests of guys are more diverse.
