Mages are great if you level up their luck, morale, and special skills (golems always have positive morale), and equip them with amulets that boost luck, morale, and health. They will tear anyone apart; it's just a matter of time.

Minotaurs always have positive morale, but these have neutral morale. If the opponent has a necromancer set that lowers initiative, luck, morale, and has necromancer dragons (I don't remember which ones), plus Banshee's Wail (or the improved version, Scream of Horror), then the mages will be at a disadvantage.
