Heroes of Might and Magic II Gold Edition: Mods, programming activities.

I've been playing for a week now. I agree about the hydras... they're quite tough. Here's a fact about black dragons: 300 vs. 65 HP for the crusaders and 80 for the cyclops. I captured a dragon castle, have money, and started crushing mages because magic doesn't affect them. The AI in this game is a bit simple; it usually buys an army, leaves half of it in the castle, and gives the other half to another weak hero... The imbalance is obvious. And the sorceresses: I bought 5, found some peasants, and now there are 100 or more of them... Now the peasants are a little stronger, they actually represent something, while the sorceresses are weaker. The 3 heroes are good, but I like the 2nd one more because of the graphics (it's simple, not blurry, and pleasing to the eye; they just don't get tiring), the music, and a bunch of other little things.
