When I started playing Heroes 5, I actually thought that Kolya was Catherine's son from Heroes 3.
Then I stopped playing the games.
Overall, both are good, so I'm voting for the third option.
I don't know about the classic games, but in Ashan, the origin of the beastmen is clearly explained, and it's quite interesting how many different types they have.
And the racial aspect is also more clearly defined. For example, the Orcs are a real race – steppe, island, with their own nuances, abilities, and they are different from each other, instead of magic, they have unique battle cries that emphasize their individuality, as do the dwarves – with their own runic magic. However, this is understandable, as Ashan was developed later, when it was possible to add more features. But that's a plus.
By the way, it's a pity that there are no efreets in Ashan – they were cool monsters.
