The Mafia members know each other.
The town doesn't know the Mafia.
Your behavior was suspicious = Mafia-like.
Of course, the town is attacking you because they see negativity in you.
But the Mafia knows that you are not negative. Therefore, for them, your revealing yourself as a cop = is just revealing yourself as a cop.

From this it follows:
The Mafia sees you as an unfortunate cop.
The town sees you as the Mafia.
