If the project wasn't profitable, it would have been shut down long ago.
The issue isn't profitability. The project has become entirely commercial, and they release it solely for the sake of it, without putting their heart into it (at least, it's not noticeable).
Heroes 1-3 were released 10-15 years ago. To expect that the same percentage of 30-40-year-old guys play it now as they did then is ridiculous; maybe 5% or 10% do. A younger generation has grown up, and with the abundance of various games, hundreds of them, 2D sprite-based games (yes, they were popular because the game market itself was small, and they were innovative) will only impress about 10% of them. So, what should be done?
And who says that we need to continue making 2D games? I meant that involving the original creator-enthusiast in the development could save the series. "Heroes" will not only meet modern technical requirements but also regain that unique atmosphere that "UbiSoft" has successfully killed.
Heroes 6 is like a breath of fresh air; I'm enjoying playing through the campaign, and I'll also play in offline tournaments.
I also thought so until June. And the closer we get to the release, the sadder it becomes. At least for me.
So, I think Ubisoft shouldn't close the project and sell the rights.
They need to beg John to come back. Although... if you think about it, it's unlikely that a person who has lost interest will work as well as they did 15 years ago.
