In reality, this is a perfectly normal situation: ardent fans of the world, and therefore people who know it well, will almost always be able to find inconsistencies or discrepancies; an outside reader will only evaluate the literary talent.

If a person writes, for example, a historical novel about medieval France, then they will read about this historical period. If a person writes a novel about a computer game, then they will learn about its lore; this is logical, isn't it? In the worst case, you can write that it is based on the game and you won't be so strictly bound by the canon.
