I went on the 3rd day to the left with a double army of 16 ghosts and 13 bone warriors, and I was met by 84 guards. I didn't even fight. But how did you break through 84 guards with 8 ghosts and 7 bone warriors, or something even worse? This is the main question.
Well, 84 guards is just easy prey; you'll encounter worse things in tournaments. Necromancer + Ghosts is just one big cheat. If the ghosts stand in defense from the beginning of the battle and don't take any actions, they receive -50% to all damage, and another -25% to physical damage (this is for specters, for ghosts it's -35%), plus a bonus for standing in defense, and you can also cast Stone Skin (costs 10 mana, lasts 5 turns). In this position, 1 seraphim deals 7-8 damage to 1 ghost per hit.
The second part of the tactic is recovery. Ghosts bravely withstand all attacks, standing in place and retaliating, while the hero attacks the enemy directly and makes sure the ghosts don't die, casting recovery in time.
The third part of the tactic is that there must be 1 skeleton in the army. Every time it is killed, the hero recovers 3 mana. Then he revives this skeleton with necromancy, and the necromancer's mana reserve is almost always full.
With this tactic, you can defeat everyone except:
1) Dark and radiance elementals - they attack with magic and remove recovery from the ghosts. You can only attack these with magic, if you have it.
2) Magic archers and melee fighters - those who attack with magic - specters don't hold up well against magical attacks, worse than physical ones. If there are enough of them, they can deal more damage than the recovery heals.
The most interesting thing is that you can play with this tactic for any faction, because you only need a necromancer with ghosts, which can be bought in the tavern on the first day. The initial army of ghosts is enough to clear the map at the beginning, then pump up the main hero's experience and continue playing with him.
Currently, a ban on this game strategy ("necromancer leveling") is being discussed in tournaments.
In general, until specters/ghosts are fixed, playing as a necromancer is not interesting at all...
