Perhaps I agree that Lord should be executed. We can kill the Mentalist later if needed, and there are still doubts about the loyalty note. Here's what I noticed: Spear couldn't have been any of the protected roles because:

On the other hand, what's the point of the description where he didn't fall from the shotgun blast?
