I personally only use the mod for fun, but since I started this topic, I'll explain what's what. GameRanger is a client that connects players in a LAN, and it supports a huge number of games. When the host creates a game, GameRanger launches the executable file of the selected game on the players' computers; of course, it only works with the original files (or rather, it thinks it does :D) – based on the file name. When the mod was created, a copy of each executable file was made, and everything was simple – rename the necessary file to Heroes3.exe and enjoy life, because there are no version conflicts with the clean game. Now, the mod can only be launched under GameRanger if you create your own .exe file, which will launch the HD version with a train of parameters. GameRanger doesn't accept any .bat or .cmd files; it needs an executable file, and a simple text editor is not enough to create one. As a result, the mod has become unusable under GameRanger (I don't know exactly which version it started with, but that's not the point).
P.S.
Why "goodbye GameRanger"? Do you think creating and launching an executable file without parameters in version 3.0 is something unrealistic? Why not just suggest this, clearly explaining why it's needed?
If desired, anyone can create the file by reading a few manuals and spending some time. I've provided the information; it's up to the author to decide whether or not to do something. Judging by the zero reaction from other players, this fact doesn't bother anyone, and the mod is not needed in GameRanger :).
