You have to be an idiot to have unlimited, overpowered Voltigore at your disposal and still use the weak Drone ability.

Weak? There's no evidence of that. The target doesn't die instantly (meaning there's more time to confuse everyone else with the unexpected death), and it also reduces defense (although that's a minor point). Voltigore only has a 50% chance to deal double damage. So what? It doesn't pierce defenses; it's just a regular kill.
I can agree with the machine gunners; there's a good opportunity to "grab" someone else. But I disagree about Voltigore.

The problem is that healing and self-defense aren't displayed. If the machine gunner killed Kosha, then Shepherd probably took damage too, but his defense saved him.

A hail of bullets from an automatic weapon? That seems doubtful. And lol, what's the point of marines killing with anything other than a machine gun?

You've probably never held an automatic weapon in your hand. The killing power at close range can't be worse.
By the way, an Assassin could also have been the culprit, but I doubt the operatives wouldn't have used Wolker. Assassins have a good passive ability, but too much isn't displayed in this game, so you can't determine the mafia member just by looking at the kill log.
