Yes, indeed, simplicity is key. If there’s a three-line formula for calculating the rating, we’ll never be able to calculate anything for anyone. Dividing into leagues based on skill level might be possible, but only if players in the stronger league actually have a higher rating. The division will make sense when several tournaments have been held, and players with higher ratings are moved to the “impossible” league, while those with lower ratings are moved to the “normal” league. But what’s the point of that? Indeed, it’s better to have one difficulty level, one league, and one rating. And finally, open a school of Heroic Mastery to bring everyone up to the same level.
