The crashes were also quite annoying. However, configuring the account helped. Go to the settings where you enter your account details, uncheck "synchronize saved games," and select "none" in the proxy server settings.
So far, I haven't experienced any crashes with these settings. This is considering that I'm in a place called Norilsk, where there's only satellite internet (I use a 3G USB modem, with a speed of about 10-50 kb/s).
