Well, I agree with Vissi here; mixing them is probably not a good idea. The current image of an elf is very different from the established canon, so it no longer fits. It's like arguing now that a hydra is just one creature, Medusa is one creature, and a Gorgon is not a monster but Medusa's last name (or first name?), etc. Yes, it all stems from mythology, but it's no longer relevant.
