Wouldn't it have been better in that case to execute someone from those who were blocked tonight? I highly doubt that the Mafia passed this night, or that both killers ran into a challenge/investigation.
Lizard, in essence, admitted that he is one of the blocked roles (if he's telling the truth) or Mafia (if he's lying), and he couldn't be a role with a non-displayed Night Defense.
