It's not 30 seconds, but a minute – that's the "Medium" time limit. If you use a spell or war cry, you get extra time for the unit's turn.
However, it depends on the settings you choose when creating the duel map.
Cool! A minute plus the time to cast a spell – that's more than enough.
Another question. When you create a hero for a duel, what information do you have about the opponent: is only the race known, or is there also information about the hero – whether he's a mage or a warrior, or is nothing known? If it's just a duel with another player, then, as I understand it, you just agree on who plays as whom, and that's it, right? But if it's a tournament, how does it work?
P.S. I've encountered this trick twice. There's a duel map, and the opponent's army is set. I choose my army, click READY, but the battle will only start when the map creator clicks START. So, after I'm ready, the duel creator quickly changes the army and starts the duel before I have a chance to change my army.
