- Neutral creatures in Heroes 3

Of course, thieves are the most useful: they are inexpensive, fight decently, and, most importantly, provide valuable information. Snipers also often prove their worth... and one or two wizards (if you can find them). The rest are rarely needed, but if you choose based on aesthetics, I'm for neutral dragons: they are very powerful and very beautiful. Especially the fairytale dragons (or dragonesses? Otherwise, why would they primp and preen, looking at an invisible mirror right on the battlefield?), which are also cheap ^_^
