Um, there's absolutely nothing compelling about it, neither the "brutal galactic" theme, sorry, the brutal society, nor the drama, there's just nothing there. Because ideologically, it remains stuck in the same old tropes as Samurai X and the like, only it looks even more absurd because it pretends to be a mature seinen. It's like this: they scatter pieces of fresh meat around the area, and people proclaim, "Oh, cool, let's laugh, it's not like we're the ones who'll suffer, lol." It's a stupid caricature; the behavior of the people, that is, mostly the clearly expressed "rednecks" who end up in Gantz, doesn't make any sense. The main characters and their friends fight, they overcome obstacles, they die, they shout things like "I'm not afraid of you/I'll defeat you!!1," they overcome obstacles again, they seem to experience strong emotions, but neither they nor anyone else there evokes even a drop of sympathy. At least the trashy elven song has an epic scene with a dog drinking, which might touch some feelings; here, I can't remember anything. If you want to watch some mindless action without any unnecessary baggage, then you can watch Gantz; otherwise, it's better to just skip it.
