Confirmed.
I probably should have restarted the layout, because everything was far from as favorable as it was for my opponent. But for some reason I didn't. For the entire game I only had enough gold for efreet and birds from the Stronghold, which I captured on week 1, day 14. Even then, I had to count every single pile every turn to see what I could build or buy back.
There were no crypts, just one Dwarf Cottage and one Medusa Hut, which I only took on the second week. Along the way I checked the only Griffin Conservatory, which turned out to be 100+.
I took it with 9 efreet and 10 birds, with barely any meatshield. I also got greedy and didn't bring any gogs with me. The Griffin Conservatory was a level 3. In 3 rounds, the griffins devoured the pitiful meatshield and went after the efreet and birds. As a result, I left 7 efreet and 9 birds there.
3 angels and +3 levels for Tazar were some consolation, at least, since everything became very easy to break through afterwards. I immediately took another secondary hero, there was a ton of gold and easy loot around (at least, compared to what had been). I placed Bear riders, planning to head to the treasure zone and demonize... Colorado wrote the rest.
I must say, the opponent's army was an order of magnitude larger, even considering the one I didn't have enough gold to buy back.
