"Lux Aeterna" (Latin for "eternal light") is a composition by Clint Mansell, and it is the most famous piece in the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack. The composition is a recurring musical theme in the film, acting as a leitmotif. It is the penultimate, 32nd track on the soundtrack. The popularity of this track has led to its use in pop culture outside of the film, especially in trailers. However, the trailer for the film Requiem for a Dream did not use this theme, but instead used the song "Everloving" by Moby.
“Lux Aeterna” was re-arranged using an orchestra and choir specifically for the trailer for the film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The new version of the composition was called "Requiem for a Tower" (it is not included in either the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack or the The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers soundtrack). The composition was re-arranged by Simone Benyacar, Daniel Nielsen, and Veigar Margeirsson. Although it was never officially released, after huge demand from fans, the orchestral version was released by Corner Stone Cues in the album Requiem for a Tower.
