If you defend yourself, they'll say you need to look for clues, or that you're too calm, like in the previous game, or something else. And why shouldn't I accuse people of being Mafia? There must be some among them, because all the peaceful votes are needed to make the execution happen.
As for the rest, those are your problems. It's not like there's an instruction manual on how you should behave if you're peaceful and your own side is trying to execute you.
