Against BD and RD there is a sphere that suppresses magic resistance. If it's a brutal slaughter, I try not to even budge without it. If the sphere isn't available, I take boots and chainmail of magic resistance. Then spells will fail to be used about 2 out of 5 times.
completely agree!! in general, there are situations (for example, when two upgraded mages from one Castle clash) where everything should be decided by the commander's talent and magic only muddies the waters. you can't rely on it 100%.
I love using magic as a "guerrilla tactic": a hero pops out with blackies (black dragons), hits them with Armageddon, and retreats.
