Well, once you fight your brother (to reach him, you need to defeat all the neutral armies in front of him) and win—these gates will open.

Stop messing around; start over and go through with minimum losses (preferably no losses at all). Although, having a bunch of Castles, you could probably take out a million cyclops... What month are you on? The 20th, the 30th? :)
