When you're playing on the highest difficulty, a shortage of 100 gold can be critical for your development speed, and the enemy isn't sleeping, especially since your hero always travels with a party of 1+1 – one fights, the other gathers resources, and that's it... the person is absolutely right.

P.S.
Actually, it's best to play as Haven; they have the most powerful skills, where even skill level isn't that important. Just position your troops correctly, and you're good to go. The developers really messed up, I hope they'll remove or heavily nerf the "Radiance" skill in patch 1.2.
