That's the point, two-hex units don't fly into the nearest wall. But they do fly into two walls. They also fly into one far wall.
Although, of course, 3 walls is too much for the Griffin Conservatory. 2 walls is enough, but you need more fairies.

I got curious, tested capturing the Conservatory, yes, that's right, but it costs 4 fire walls.
I managed to use two walls by taking 7 individual fairies, like this:
1. everyone flies down-left, one fairy dies from the white griffins
2. everyone flies up-left, two more fairies die
3. a fire wall is placed at the edge and a fairy flies there, the white griffins hit the fourth fairy, the remaining 1-2 fairies sacrifice themselves by jumping into the fire, the other griffins stand around dumbfounded.
4. a second wall is placed and the griffins burn.
