Questions about the gameplay of Heroes 6.

Is it possible to change a hero's skill progression, as it was in Heroes of Might and Magic V with the mentor system? Did I understand correctly that in Heroes of Might and Magic VI, a hero's attributes do not affect the attributes of the units?
