Here's an example with America, which confirms what I'm saying. After all, India, Canada, and Australia remained part of the British Empire. But the situation with the USA was different. It was a real melting pot. The most energetic people went there: bandits, heretics, sectarians, and so on. And since they had so much energy, they were able to break away. Other parts of the empire didn't have such a concentration of energetic people.
